    What and how much do commercial roofing (rubber) salesm make on commission ?

    How does it differ from residential commission ? Tx

      Jim,

      Commercial roofing pay is all over the map. It really depends on the company you’re selling for. Since commercial sales pipelines are much longer than residential, many companies that specialize in commercial pay a small salary plus commission. Some will even pay expenses (e.g. Truck, Gas, etc.) However, that’s not always the case.

      You’ll have to check with each individual company to get an idea of what and how much they pay.

    hey Mike,
    For starters I want to say thanks!
    For the last couple of months every time i need a pep talk or just a little motivation I read up your latest posts and BAM, I’m ready to go!
    Now, I can sell and I’m in an area that is easy to find indisputable wind damage but I don’t trust the contractor I’m working with so I’ve been moving slowly, my deal with him is 20% of the total amount(usually 25 to 30 squares at around 10k) and in the last couple of months he’s paid on the 5 or so i brought in but he seems like a fly by night – If I was able to bring in a few per week steady do you think these are doable numbers to present to solid roofing co’s?
    Can I sign, set up and sell these jobs for say 15% each?

    Was just curious about how much should I expect my roofsales company to pay % wise? I saw 30-40 up to 50. I was told I would make 15% with a potential of up to 25%….doesn’t seem like I am valued very much.

    Thanks so much for replying back, i read ecery articale and saw your youtube video, Great tips! Reason for comtacting you is because I am opening a roofing company as well as chimenys and gutters.

    I wanted to get few hidden tips of managing the right way, to keep my sales reps happy and as well as myself, also have a partner that would be on the road as salesman, so i wanted to know where are the gaps so i dont get robbed(my biggest fear, if i may say)

    I had sent a post thinking it was posted but I believe it was a general email. I would like to use less words and allow the followers to gain insight from your response. Been in hi line auto sales for last few years. I am 26 years. Year to date last year was 83k. Due to family matters I had to leave my job and return home for several months. I can return to Auto sales however after speaking to a buddy ab not looking forward to being locked in a dealership 9 to 9 mon thru sat. He mentioned roofing sales. I will be in north Carolina and wanted to know realistic income figures in Charlotte area along with aNy other insight you may have. Thanks

      Thx for your email.

      I’m not familiar with the market in Charlotte right now. However, that’s an important variable to understand before going to work there.

      Roofing sales is a storm-driven job. Without the insurance claims to bolster a market, roofing can quickly devolve into a commodity product.

      If Charlotte has plenty of claims left to work, you have the first variable covered. Otherwise, you probably don’t want to spend your time there.

      It would be like working a 12-hour shift at the car lot with only 1-2 prospects all day long. In roofing sales, without a good storm, you may only see 1-2 good prospects all month.

      Sure, you can make money without a lot of prospects, but you better be amazing. That’s a tough situation to be in if you’re just learning the business.

      You are already a successful car salesman. $83k is a lot of money. There are a lot of guys who dream about making that much. You know how hard it is and I don’t think you would shy away from putting in the time to learn the business.

      There is a lot of difference in prospecting though. In roofing sales, you don’t get a lot of “ups”. The prospects don’t usually come to you, you go find them.

      That has been enough of a difference to drive a lot of ex-car guys back into selling cars. They are good salespeople, but they can’t do their own prospecting and they end up starving.

      The allure of setting your own hours after spending much of your career chained to a car lot has got to be powerful. Freedom is a big draw and one of the primary reasons people like roofing sales.

      If you make the jump into roofing, would you be able to easily return to car sales in the event things just don’t work out?

      You’ve got to examine all of the variables and then ask yourself, “what’s the worst that could happen?”.

      If you decide to take the leap, you’ll have to work like crazy to make sure the worst doesn’t happen. Even then, there’s no guarantee, but at least you’ll be able to say that you tried.

        Yes i do Mike respectfully, I think you are a class act i tell all of my guys to look at your website but i dont think anyone has. Frustrating that people are so lazy. It would be nice to know that i had salesmen doing their job and knocking on doors. Instead 70 percent of our jobs comes from me and the reputation i have managed to keep for myself from my construction background. Plus our speedy job competion.         Obviously, you have to take care of yourself first. It is after all your name, your reputation and your referrals.

        If the guys are not going to go out and knock, they have no reason to complain when they aren’t making the sales they need.
