Don’t Get Offended
A few years ago, I was out knocking doors with my brother-in-law. The neighborhood had been flooded with roofers all summer long.
Fall was approaching quickly and the rejections at the front door were getting brutal…
One woman came to the door with a snarl on her face and sneered, “Let me guess. You’re roofers, right?”
I quickly said, “No! We’re Jehovah Witness.”
If you’re from that faith, please don’t get mad at me.
Have a Sense of Humor!
She instantly knew I was kidding and started laughing hard.
Unfortunately, when the lady quit laughing, she told us she still wasn’t interested, so we left and kept knocking anyway.
A few doors later, we knocked on a door where a guy had something written in German on his door mat. My brother-in-law said something to him in German when he opened the door. He let us come right in!
Jackpot!
He had a 75 Square Alcoa Aluminum roof. He bought a Decra roof from us and we drove home laughing all the way.
I later asked my brother-in-law what he said at the front door in German.
He said, “I honestly don’t know. It was the only phrase I remembered from my high school German class.”
If you don’t have fun with what you’re doing, especially in sales, you won’t be doing it for very long.
Peace,
Mike
